Barry Bannan is one of the best midfielders in the Championship, but often he has had to do the job of two players in the Wednesday engine room.

That is until now, with fairly new face Joey Pelupessy becoming one half of a perfect midfield double act.

Pelupessy's job in Jos Luhukay's side is to sit in front of the defence and protect the back four. The Dutchman is not tall, but uses his spacial awareness to shield Wednesday's defence in style. Bannan, on the other hand, is the creator. The Scotsman glides around the pitch picking passes and spreading the play.

Bannan's ability is not in doubt, nor has it been for any of his time at Wednesday, often the star man in the Owls' play-off pushes. Despite this, he often had a lot of work to do in Carlos Carvalhal's 4-4-2 formation.

With Pelupessy doing 'the dirty work', Bannan has the freedom to roam around and spread his creative wings with his vision and passing range.

The pair have started together on eighteen occasions in the Championship, with Wednesday suffering just four defeats in those games. That stat is testament to the work of the duo.

Pelupessy isn't limited to just defending, however. In the win over Aston Villa last weekend, he provided the assist for Steven Fletcher's winner, whipping in a neat cross.

Jos Luhukay is bringing results back to Hillsborough and his midfield duo are a large part of this success.
