Joey Pelupessy believes that Jos Luhukay deserves credit for the impact he has had considering the situation of the club.

Sheffield Wednesday 1-0 victory over Hull at the weekend ensured survival in the Championship, which enables the team to start planning for next season.

It's been a difficult season for the Owls because a long list of injuries to key players have helped dismantle a push for a third consecutive play-off finish and led to worries about being drawn into a relegation dogfight.

Luhukay's task hasn't been easy because he became manager in the midst of these injury issues back in January and hasn't been able to field anything near a full-strength side since. Here's what Pelupessy had to say about his manager to The Yorkshire Post:

"He has had a good impact. When he came here it was not an easy situation."

"They were low in the table – this club has to be higher – and had lost a lot of games. They needed points as the relegation battle had started a little bit."

"It’s positive we are safe now with three games to go and that’s a good thing for the manager."

The Verdict

Luhukay might not have had the most promising start as Wednesday manager, but he has accomplished what was needed under tough circumstances which is the most that can be asked for.

He deserves the chance to have a full season with this squad as well as the summer transfer window to fully make his mark on the team. His style might not be the most exciting, but some of it is definitely born from pragmatism due to the players available.

Pelupessy is naturally going to be favourable towards Luhukay due to the manager bringing him to England, but he is correct with his assessment of the situation.
