It could be argued that we are about to see a period of change for Sheffield Wednesday over the coming weeks and months.

With the appointment of Tony Pulis to replace Garry Monk as the club's new manager, there is a strong chance that the new man in charge at Hillsborough will be keen to put his own mark on the side.

One Sheffield Wednesday player who is likely to be looking ahead to that potential overhaul at the club with a great deal of interest, is Joey Pelupessy.

The midfielder has had a distinctly mixed time at Sheffield Wednesday to say the least, and will no doubt be keen to see just how his prospects might change under Pulis.

So here, we've taken a look at how things have gone so far for Pelupessy at Wednesday, the issues that he faces with the Owls, and what might be next for the 27-year-old, in our latest "hat-trick" feature.

How's it gone so far?

It's probably fair to say that it hasn't been the best of times for Pelupessy since he joined Sheffield Wednesday

Having made the move to Hillsborough from Dutch side Heracles in the 2018 January transfer window, Pelupessy was a initially a regular for the Owls under then manager Jos Luhukay.

However, after Luhukay's departure, some inconsistent performances from Pelupessy have seen the midfielder's become a less regular feature in Wednesday's starting lineup, all of which have contributed to him struggling to really win round the Owls faithful.

Even so, Pelupessy has still managed to rack up 86 appearances in just under three years at Hillsborough, although he has scored just once in that time.

What issues does he face?

Like most players currently at Wednesday, the big challenge for Pelupessy is to impress his new manager in Pulis.

Arguably that could be harder for Pelupessy than other members of the Owls' squad, given he is not really a regular feature at the minute, and has flattered to deceive with his performance for the club in the past.

Indeed, Pelupessy's recent run of five straight starts for Wednesday has coincided with the recent injury suffered by Massimo Luongo, the Australian's recent return to training means Pelupessy could be about to face some more considerable competition for a place in the side going forward.

There is of course also the issue of the battle against relegation that Wednesday currently find themselves in, sitting second from bottom in the Championship table, two points from safety after 11 games of the campaign.

For Pelupessy, there is also the fact that his contract with Wednesday is expiring at the end of this season to consider, meaning that he is not only playing for his place in the side, but also for his future.

What's Next?

With so many games to come between now and the January transfer window, this could be a crucial few weeks in Pelupessy's future.

Given the toll that the fixture schedule is likely to take over the next few weeks in terms of injuries and suspensions in the next weeks, you would imagine Pelupessy will get the chance to impress his new manager.

Should he be successful in doing that - and it will be interesting to see if Pelupessy does suit Pulis' more defensive style of play - you imagine he could yet get another chance to succeed during his time at Hillsborough.

If he fails to do that however, then you wonder whether Wednesday may be tempted to try to move him on in January, in an attempt to at least receive some sort of fee for Pelupessy, rather than let him go for nothing when his contract expires this summer.
