Swansea City centre-back Ben Cabango has put pen to paper on a new two-year contract extension which will keep him at the club until the summer of 2023, the club has confirmed.

Cabango has been one of Swansea's main breakthrough stars this campaign after making a total of 16 first-team appearances, and he has now been rewarded with a two-year extension on his deal which was originally due to expire in the summer of 2021.

The 19-year-old has established himself as an important figure in the Swans side since his league debut in November, and he had been forming an impressive centre-back partnership with fellow academy graduate Joe Rodon prior to the fixture suspension.

Cabango has now taken to Instagram to express his delight at signing a new deal with the Liberty Stadium side, while he also added that he hopes to be back playing for Swansea in the near future when the EFL's suspension is eventually lifted.

Some of the defender's team-mates have now responded to his celebratory message, with both Rodon and goalkeeper Freddie Woodman having sent supportive comments to the Wales Under-21 international.

The Verdict

Cabango's new contract will be received extremely well by all Swansea fans given the defender's progress this term, with it now seeming increasingly likely he will become a regular figure in defence over the coming campaigns.

The comments from Rodon and Woodman only serve to reflect how Cabango is a popular figure among his team-mates, and they are clearly pleased to see the 19-year-old sign fresh terms following an excellent breakthrough season in SA1.

This decision provides further proof that Swansea are always looking to make forward-thinking decisions, with Cabango undoubtedly one of the brightest young stars to have emerged from the club over the last couple of seasons.
