Joe Murphy set to make decision on future

Coventry City goalkeeper Joe Murphy is set to finally make a decision on where his future lies next season by the end of the week.

It highly anticipated that 32 year old Murphy will sign for Championship side Huddersfield to team up with former City boss Mark Robins.

Robins has been on the lookout for a top quality keeper to act as back up for the impressive Alex Smithies at John Smiths Stadium, since he decided to release Ian Bennett last month.

Stephen Pressley has said it will be difficult keep his number one at the club should a Championship club come in for him, especially as he is out of contract at the end of June.

Stephen Pressley will not stand in Joe Murphy's way should he decide to leave for higher level.

Speaking to the Coventry Telegraph Pressley said ““I’m obviously aware that Joe has been in talks as he will soon be out of contract with us but to this point I understand that there has been no contract agreed or signed.

“Joe has been exceptional for this football club, both in terms of his form and level of appearances, and obviously I would like to see him stay here.

“By the same token, we are also aware that Championship football brings with it Championship wages and we would be unlikely to be able to compete with that.

“However, we still would like the opportunity to make a case for him to remain with us. I know he enjoys being here, he is highly respected and his performances have attracted a great deal of credit so ultimately it will come down to how Joe sees the next stage of his career.”

Murphy has made 137 appearances for Coventry since signing back in 2011.
