It's been a unique season for everyone connected with the game so far this year but, for Joe Lumley, that has perhaps taken on an extra dynamic in recent weeks.

The QPR stopper battled with Liam Kelly last season to try and secure the number 1 spot at the club but neither managed to do enough to head into this campaign.

Indeed, Seny Dieng is the man between the sticks for the club at the moment and is looking strong, leaving Kelly and Lumley at a loose end.

For the latter, at least, there's been a chance to get playing again of late with emergency loans at both Gillingham and, most recently, Doncaster Rovers.

Indeed, Doncaster manager Darren Moore has already said he'd like to keep Lumley a bit longer if it can be arranged and, with QPR already sanctioning short stints, you can't see why they'd be against such a move - they were looking to loan one of the 'keepers out in summer after all.

He's featured in the draw with Sunderland and then the turnaround win against Blackpool earlier this week and so would be able to build a relationship quickly with the Rovers defence if he did stay on.

In terms of a QPR future, meanwhile, sticking with Doncaster might well be best for him as he can look to build confidence and really show what he can do - as Dieng has done in recent seasons with his own loans away.

Certainly, you don't feel Lumley's time at QPR is up just yet, and perhaps he can underline why if he does get a longer spell in Yorkshire.
