Nottingham Forest's Joe Lolley has slammed Liverpool after they became the latest Premier League club to place some non-playing staff on furlough.

That means that 80% of the wages paid to those staff members will come through the government's job retention scheme, with the European champions following Norwich, Bournemouth, Newcastle and Tottenham in taking such action.

The Premier League leaders have said that they will continue to pay staff the remaining 20% of their salaries to ensure that they aren't financially disadvantaged during the Coronavirus crisis.

Nevertheless, the decision has angered many people across the country, as they don't feel the scheme should be used to help businesses that bring in hundreds of millions of pounds in revenue each year.

And, it's clear that Lolley is one of those as he issued a three-word response to the update on Twitter which made his stance perfectly clear.

"It’s f*cking despicable."

Lolley hasn't been alone in his criticism, with Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher describing the actions of his former club as 'poor' on social media this afternoon as well.

The verdict

The Forest star is not frightened to share opinions on all things on Twitter and you would have to say his comments on this issue sum up exactly how the majority of the country feel.

It's ridiculous that any Premier League side are using this funding to help pay wages of staff who will be on a fraction of what the players are.

Hopefully no other clubs in the top-flight will follow suit or they can expect a similar public backlash.
