Stoke City midfielder Joe Allen believes his Wales teammate and Swansea City star Daniel James is good enough for the Premier League, as the winger closes in on a move to Manchester United.

The 21-year-old is set to become Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's first signing as Manchester United manager, in a deal worth around £18million.

James was one of the standout players for Swansea in the Championship last season and made his breakthrough for Wales on the international stage.

The winger scored five goals and provided ten assists in 38 appearances for Swansea last season and scored his first goal for Wales in a 1-0 win over Slovakia in March.

His impressive performances for both club and country saw him attract interest from a number of top-flight clubs, but it seems the player has decided joining on Manchester United and he is expected to undergo his medical at the club today.

Stoke midfielder and James' Wales teammate Allan is impressed with what he has seen from the winger and believes he is ready to make an impact in the Premier League.

"I can only give you my opinion, I think he is ready for it. He is a level-headed lad who has huge ability and I am sure he wants to show it at the highest level he can. I am confident he can do that," Allen told BBC Sport.

The Verdict

James is an exciting young player and he could be a good signing for Manchester United.

Hopefully he is given a chance in the first-team at Old Trafford, because he needs to get regular game time in order to realise his potential.

It will be a blow for Swansea to lose one of their key players, but £18million is a huge amount of money and whoever is in charge at the Liberty Stadium next season will be able to use that to considerably strengthen their squad in the summer.
