Former West Bromwich Albion boss Jimmy Shan has praised his Baggies' predecessor Darren Moore after he selected his new assistant for his time at Doncaster Rovers.

Former West Brom academy coach Jamie Smith will make the move to the Keepmoat as Moore's number two and his former colleague was quick to praise the decision.

Taking to Twitter, Shan wrote: "Fantastic appointment and absolutely delighted for Jamie. Wishing two top guys all the best this season."

Last season saw both Moore and Shan given first-team management responsibilities during the Baggies' return to the second-tier.

After impressing in the Premier League, Moore was offered the job on a full-time basis but, after their automatic promotion push fell away in March, he was sacked.

Shan took over the role until the end of the season but could only guide them to a play-off defeat to local rivals Aston Villa.

Slaven Bilic has since taken over at the Hawthorns whilst Moore has taken up the top job at Doncaster following the departure of Grant McCann to Hull City.

The verdict

It is no surprise to see Shan praising the work of Moore.

The pair worked together at West Brom for a long time and, although things did not work out well for either of them, there is clearly still a lot of respect for both eachother and their former club.

It will be very interesting to see how Moore performs in League One with a Doncaster side that needed a lot of work doing to it this summer.

But I think near enough everyone watching on with interest will be eager to see him succeed.
