Former Leeds United striker Jermaine Beckford has revealed that he still has some regrets about his time at Elland Road.

Beckford, who spent four years with the West Yorkshire club between 2006 and 2010, is often looked upon by Leeds fans as one the finest strikers they have had in the last decade or so.

However, speaking to The Athletic this week, Beckford has revealed that he still thinks about the play-off final defeat to Watford, in which Kevin Blackwell opted not to select Beckford in the squad at all.

“I like to think I’d have offered something different,” Beckford said.

The striker was firmly out of favour under then-manager Kevin Blackwell, failing to start a league game for the Whites as they struggled to get back to the Premier League.

And Beckford went on to further elaborate, insisting that he could have offered something during the 3-0 loss to the Hornets.

“I’m not saying we’d have won, but my recollection is that everything we did was in front of Watford. It was too easy to defend against. I’d have brought some pace and something unexpected. It chomps away at me when I think about it.” he added.

Beckford found himself out on loan with Scunthorpe the following season before returning to the club and cementing himself as the main striker at the club.

The Verdict

Beckford was undoubtedly the man for Leeds following this season but I suppose you can see Blackwell's logic in not including him in the squad given he'd not really been at the club during the season.

However, Beckford is loved by the Leeds fans, and he probably won't be the only one wondering what might have been.
