Wolves managed to beat the deadline to secure the signing of Benik Afobe who will join the club on loan until the end of the season.
The deal appeared to be off until a late call from Bournemouth meant it could be pushed through just before 11pm last night.
It means Afobe will be returning to Molineux having played for the club before moving to the Cherries. In his first spell, the 24-year old scored 23 goals in 48 games and became an instant hit with fans thanks to his link up with Nouha Dicko and Bakary Sako.
However, Wolves have changed a lot since then with Fosun International taking over from Steve Morgan, the man who sanctioned the £10m sale of Afobe.
And, Jeff Shi, the Chairman at Wolves, was delighted to bring Afobe back.
“Welcome back home. I have heard a lot of good things about Benik, personally when we came to the club he had already left,” he told the Express & Star.
“It’s destiny in life that we meet again, so I’ve very happy to welcome him back. I hope he can work at his best to stay in our team and to go with us together to the Premier League.”
Wolves fans will be buzzing that Benik Afobe has returned as a quick striker is the only thing that the squad is lacking really.
As Jeff Shi says, many still appreciate what a good player Afobe was for Wolves and they will be surprised it doesn’t seemed to have worked out for him in the top-flight.
But, now he is back and will be desperate to rediscover the form he displayed before to secure Wolves’ promotion.
