Aston Villa goalkeeper Jed Steer has hailed the impact of defender Tyrone Mings since he arrived on a season-long loan from Premier League side Bournemouth in January.
Mings has appeared 12 times for Villa since his move to the Championship, though he was absent for Saturday’s 2-1 victory over Bristol City after seeing red for two bookable offences in the victory at Rotherham the Wednesday before.
Despite that, Villa have lost just twice when Mings has appeared for the club, with Dean Smith’s side establishing themselves as strong play-off contenders – sitting five points clear of the chasing pack with four games of the season remaining.
Speaking about Mings to the Drive Time show on Villa’s official You Tube channel, Steer revealed: “Ty’s a great guy.
“He’s helped bring everyone together with the kind of character he is.”
Steer’s own return to the Villa side has coincided with Mings’ arrival in the starting XI, with seven of his 11 Championship appearances this season coming alongside the defender.
It is little surprise those around Villa are so keen to see Mings extend his stay at Villa Park when you look at his impact on the side.
The defender has worked wonders to help Dean Smith’s side strengthen their back line, and a return to the Premier League would surely help the Midlands side do that.
If no permanent deal materialises for Mings, he has a massive opportunity to deliver a parting gift of promotion.
