Jean-Kevin Augustin is back in the building at Thorp Arch, with the Leeds United loanee working towards the season’s resume.
Leeds have seen their promotion push placed on hold and a ball hasn’t been kicked in the Championship since the first weekend in March.
If things can resume, Leeds have nine games to secure promotion back to the Premier League and will be aided by the fit-again Augustin.
Quiz: Have Leeds United done these 15 things in the last 10 years? – Yes or no?
Since arriving at Elland Road in January, Augustin has been hampered by a hamstring problem and failed to really get fit enough for Marcelo Bielsa’s style of football.
Now, he’s shared an update on his return to training on Instagram, as Bielsa’s squad get ‘back to basics’, with Augustin’s condition one real talking point.
The 22-year-old looks trim and ready to impact things in the Championship, should Leeds be offered the chance to play the final nine games of the season.
Currently, Leeds sit top of the pile in terms of the Championship’s standings, a point clear of West Brom.
More importantly there is a significant gap of seven points between Leeds and Fulham, with the third-placed Cottagers holding the biggest threat to the top-two at this stage.
The Verdict
Augustin looks a different animal to the man we saw pre-postponement.
He’s a lot leaner and with his injuries behind him, Leeds could have a real player on their hands for the run-in.
Patrick Bamford remains the main man in attack, but Leeds need more than just a reliance on him if they are to finish the job they’ve started.
Excitement is growing around Augustin been the difference between the Premier League and Championship.
