Millwall midfielder Jayson Molumby sees no reason why his side cannot push for a Championship play-off spot this term despite being five points adrift of sixth place at present.

Gary Rowett's side marginally closed the gap on the top six following their 1-1 draw with play-off rivals Bristol City on Saturday, with Millwall levelling the scores via Tomas Kalas' own goal after Pedro Pereira had put the Robins in front.

The result means the Lions are now sitting 11th in the Championship table with 10 games remaining this campaign, with the south London outfit having enjoyed a much-improved run of form since Rowett's arrival at The Den in October.

Speaking to London News Online, Molumby has suggested Millwall have every chance of sealing a play-off spot despite a three-game winless run, with the Brighton loanee claiming anything can happen between now and the end of the season.

“It’s all to play for,” said Molumby.

“We just need to keep picking up points. Anything can happen in football.

“I don’t see why we can’t still do it. We’re not getting ahead of ourselves. Wigan are going on a crazy run and got out of the relegation zone.

“We just need to stay in and around it."

Molumby has firmly established himself in the Millwall starting line-up in recent months, with the Irishman having now played the full 90 minutes in 20 of the Lions' last 22 Championship clashes during their play-off bid.

The Verdict

Millwall gave their play-off hopes a major boost with their impressive 1-0 win over Preston earlier this month, but Rowett's men have failed to really back up this important victory as they have drawn two and lost one of their last three matches.

Molumby is definitely correct in that Millwall are still in with a chance of sealing a play-off spot, but they will now need to achieve a string of victories while hoping their rivals drop points in the promotion race over the coming weeks.

The Lions must now turn their attention to a key clash with Nottingham Forest this weekend, and Rowett will be hoping his side can replicate the performance which saw them seal their victory over Preston to lay down a marker in the play-off race.
