Former Derby County man Fikayo Tomori has been rewarded for his excellent form at Chelsea this season by receiving a call-up to the senior England squad.

The centre-back joined the Rams under Frank Lampard on loan last season and he had a very productive campaign, winning the Player of the Year as they reached the play-off final.

Therefore, with Lampard taking over at Stamford Bridge, Tomori would have known he had a chance and he has taken that in the opening months of the campaign by starring recently.

That has resulted in a call-up to the national team, with the BBC confirming the news this afternoon.

Following the update, Derby right-back Jayden Bogle took to Instagram to praise his old teammate, with a picture of the centre-back and two hearts.

The pair are sure to have been close friends after playing in the same defence last season, with Tomori involved in 47 games and Bogle in 43 in what was a successful year for the east Midlands outfit which saw them fall at the final hurdle.

The verdict

This will be a nice message for Tomori to receive from his old teammate and there's no doubt he will have a lot of friends at Derby after enjoying a brilliant year at the club.

Whilst it's his return to Chelsea that resulted in the call-up, Tomori's rise should also inspire the likes of Bogle and other young players at Pride Park.

He has shown you can get to the top quickly if you work hard and continue to improve your game.
