Bolton Wanderers take on Blackpool in what is set to be a closely-fought battle at The University of Bolton Stadium on Monday evening.

The Trotters have endured a slight upturn in form in recent weeks, as they look to pull off an unlikely survival in League One this season.

One man that will be looking to make an impact more than most of the Blackpool squad on the night is Jay Spearing, who spent five seasons with Bolton earlier in his career (including a loan spell in the 2012/2013 season).

Spearing took to Twitter on Sunday, to issue his thoughts ahead of the game, and labelled his former stomping ground as a 'special place'.

Spearing and his Blackpool team-mates have started this year's campaign strongly, with the Tangerines currently occupying a spot in the play-off positions.

The experienced midfielder has made ten league appearances so far for Simon Grayson's side, as they look to make a timely return to the Championship.

He's likely to get good reception from Bolton's supporters, with Spearing making 173 appearances in total for the Trotters over the years, in a successful spell in both the Championship and League One.

It's certain to be a fiery atmosphere on Monday evening, with both sides having their fair share of ownership problems in recent years.

The Verdict:

This will be a really tough test for Spearing and Blackpool this evening.

Bolton have certainly improved since they made new additions to their squad, and deserved their points against Oxford United and Sunderland in recent weeks.

Spearing was an excellent servant to the Trotters, but he'll be hoping that Blackpool can continue their strong start to this year's league campaign.
