Javier Acuna has today completed a move away from Watford to sign for his boyhood club Olimpia Asuncion, the Championship side have announced.

Acuna only scored one goal during his time with Watford.

Acuna only scored one goal during his time with Watford.

The former Real Madrid striker struggled to establish himself in the team at Vicarage Road after signing for the club last summer. Acuna failed to score in nine league appearances for the Hornets but did score in the Capital One Cup against Norwich.

The 26 year-old ended last season on loan at La Liga side Osasuna where he managed three league goals in 16 appearances for the club.

With Watford signing several strikers this summer including Odion Ighalo and Matej Vydra, the Paraguayan has been deemed surplus to requirements by Watford boss Giuseppe Sannino.

Olimpia Asuncion have agreed an undisclosed fee with Watford to bring Acuna back to the club where he started his career.
