Jason Pearce takes to Instagram as he announces retirement

Former Charlton Athletic skipper Jason Pearce has taken to Instagram to announce his retirement from football.

Pearce has been a stalwart for the Addicks for the last several years but with him leaving the club at the end of last season he had a decision to make.

Indeed, he could either carry on playing elsewhere or take up a coaching role within the Addicks’ academy set-up and it is the latter option that he has decided to follow.

Taking to Instagram, Pearce posted a typically classy message on social media thanking his family, former coaches, team-mates and fans for their help along the way, before confirming he’d be working in Charlton’s youth set-up as a coach as his next step:

The Verdict

Pearce is a top pro and he could have kept on playing, but he evidently feels now is the right time to step away from playing and focus on a new chapter.

He’s achieved plenty in the game over the years and the experiences he has available to him to call on will no doubt help him impart information on the young footballers coming through with the Addicks.

He’s a credit to Charlton and the club will be eager to see him do well in his new role after handing over the armband.

Can you remember how much Charlton Athletic paid for these 22 summer signings?
