Charlton Athletic were left frustrated on Saturday afternoon, as they were forced to settle for a point against Shrewsbury Town.

The Addicks took the lead on the day through Ben Watson, and they held their nerve up until injury-time, before Dave Edwards was fouled in the penalty area, with a spot-kick being awarded deep into stoppage-time.

Ollie Norburn stepped up and dispatched the penalty to rescue a point for Shrewsbury Town, but it will have been an irritating way for the match to conclude for Lee Bowyer's side.

The Addicks are currently sat sixth in the League One table, and will be hoping they can put together a positive run of form at the earliest of opportunities heading towards the potentially season-defining festive period.

Charlton Athletic captain Jason Pearce returned to the squad from injury to play the full 90 minutes in the stalemate with Shrewsbury.

Pearce took to Twitter following the result, and was delighted to return to the squad after the injury lay-off, and insisted that his side will get better.

Pearce and his Charlton team-mates are set to return to action this weekend, when they take on AFC Wimbledon at The Valley, in a match they'll be expected to pick up three points from.

The Verdict:

It's important that they pick up positive results at the earliest of opportunities.

Charlton have only one win in their last five matches, which has seen them lose vital ground on the promotion-chasing pack in the third-tier.

Pearce has been a regular in the Charlton team this season, and the Addicks will be counting on a player of his experience to play his part and guide them up the table.

They need to start seeing out matches where they're leading in the near future as well, as that'll be a real concern for Lee Bowyer at this moment in time.
