Jason Knight from Derby to Birmingham City: Is it a good potential move? Would he start? What does he offer?

Following John Eustace’s arrival at Birmingham City, the new manager is keen to add to his squad as we enter the final month of the summer transfer window in the hope that his side can push up the Championship

According to Football Insider, one man on the wanted list is Derby County’s Jason Knight following the Rams’ relegation to League One last season.

The 21-year-old is entering the final year of his contract at Pride Park which could make Derby more likely to strike a deal with the aim of cashing in on the player.

The Sun have previously reported that the club would not be willing to listen to low offers for their player this summer meaning the Blues would have to commit to making a move but it’s yet to be seen whether they will decide to do so this month.

Is it a good potential move?

This would be a brilliant signing for Birmingham as Knight is a talented youngster with potential to develop his game even further.

The Blues have had a tough time of late and a signing like Knight could be just what they need to energise them for the season and if he did sign you could see him having a massive impact on the pitch from the get go.

It’s clear he’s not a League One player and following Derby’s relegation, he is someone that should be looking up at the sooner he gets back to the Championship the better.

However, Birmingham have to be mindful of the fact that the Rams are looking for a decent fee this summer and whether or not this is something they will be able to match is something to be seen.

Ewood Park?

Would he start?

You would be very surprised if Knight didn’t walk in to the starting line up at St Andrew’s.

At such a young age, the midfielder already has plenty of Championship experience under his belt and is confident at playing first team football in the second tier.

The Blues do currently have midfield options but Knight’s talent alongside his potential to grow further puts him ahead of the current options available to Eustace.

What does he offer?

As previously mentioned, the 21-year-old is an exciting player because as well as experience he also has the youthful aspect to his game and the ability to add to that further.

An intelligent footballer, the midfielder is able to contribute to his side’s attacking ability as well as being able to hold the ball well and play a possession based game.

Knight has six Championship goals under his belt so far and whilst this is something he needs to work on making consistent, it’s clear he knows where the back of the net is too.
