Former Nottingham Forest striker Jason Cummings has opened up on the time he was filmed smashed up his flat during his time at the City Ground.

The 24-year-old signed for Forest under Mark Warburton in 2017, signing from Hibernian after scoring 55 goals in 114 games for the Scottish Premiership side.

But the Scot endured a turbulent time at the City Ground, making only 14 league appearances for the Reds, and scoring four goals in all competitions.

He fell out of favour under Aitor Karanka in 2018 following Warburton's sacking and joined Rangers on loan, but it was the 2018/19 season where he was involved in controversy.

Cummings scored six goals in his first five games on loan with Peterborough United last season, but in September, he was filmed trashing his flat, clearly intoxicated after a night out.

Posh then cut Cummings' loan spell short, and he failed to make another appearance for Forest upon his return to the City Ground.

Speaking to the Scottish Sun about the incident, Cummings has insisted that it was a "one-off mistake", and has also said that he would "turn back time" if he could.

He said: "I feel that people have got me wrong. It was a one-off mistake. Everyone thinks I’m mad, they think I’m like Hannibal Lecter.

"I’m not. I’m just a normal lad. I’m young, I like a laugh, but I’m not a serial drinker. It was a mistake. If I could turn back time, I wouldn’t have done it.

"Everyone makes mistakes. You get people coming out on their high horse saying, ‘It’s a disgrace’. It’s like no one has had a night out before. I know I took it too far and I know it was a mistake. I have paid the price massively. Nobody got hurt, but I’ve hurt myself."

"I got fined a lot of money, but I repaired everything and I cannot apologise more. If I’m honest, it has affected my career."

Cummings has since enjoyed an impressive spell with League One side Shrewsbury Town, scoring two goals in four games for Sam Ricketts' side after signing from Forest in the summer.

The Verdict

It's a shame to see how Cummings' career panned out, but at least he is now redeeming himself with an impressive season at Shrewsbury.

He was on fire for Peterborough last season, but off-field incidents really ruined his time at London Road, and he struggled to redeem himself on loan at Luton.

He will be looking to make amends, and won't want to blow this chance now.
