Hull City manager Grant McCann has revealed he is hopeful of securing a new contract for star player Jarrod Bowen in the coming weeks.
Jarrod Bowen has been in tremendous form this season, with eight goals already this campaign, most recently scoring twice in the Tigers’ 2-0 win over Derby County at the weekend.
Bowen has been attracting Premier League interest since his breakthrough season, and it is no surprise that Hull are keen to renew his contract which is due to run out at the end of next season. The winger is seen as one of the hottest properties in the Championship and it is hard to disagree with as he continuously demonstrates his goal-scoring ability week-in-week-out.
It is no secret that Bowen wants to play in the top division and certainly has the ability to do so, but it is reported in the Hull Daily Mail that his club has offered him a new and improved contract to ward off any potential interest. When talking to the Hull Daily Mail, McCann commented on Bowen’s current situation, saying: “Jarrod loves it here.
“I spoke to him a couple of weeks back about the club wanting to speak with him and he said he loved it here. He wants to play in the Premier League with Hull and it’s as simple as that. He’d love to get to the Premier League with Hull one day, that’s really clear to see.
“That doesn’t mean he’ll sign a new contract tomorrow. It has to be right for everyone. We’re in no rush. He’s got this year and he’s got next year. It’s not as if he could be leaving soon. Jarrod is focused on his football.”
Bowen’s current deal runs until the end of next year with the option of another, which will obviously be exercised, but the Hull boss is keen to extend his stay further, he added: “They’re in discussions.
“I’ve got nothing else really to tell you. I know the agent and the club are speaking but these things can take time.”
Bowen is doing the right thing at the moment sitting down for renewal talks, it is giving the club a chance to convince him to stay but also the chance for him to begin considering his Hull future, with his destiny almost certainly laying in the Premier League.
At the moment, Bowen is focusing very well on his Hull performances and should continue to do so while he is still there, and help push the club towards their clear goal of achieving promotion.
Focusing on himself will eventually lead him down the right path – he’s got time on his side.
