The January transfer window has once again been and gone, and it was an immensely busy one for teams outside of the Premier League.

Over the past few years, the Championship has seen some serious money chucked about in January, with teams willing to gamble on one big name being the missing piece of the jigsaw to get them to the Premiership.

Jordan Rhodes was a prime example of this last term, with Boro paying over £10m for the striker. He would go on to score some crucial goals to cement his place in Boro history and send them to promotion.

This January was one of the most active we have seen in terms of the English Football League, and this has got us thinking.

With this in mind, FLW writer Lee Connor has put together his BEST XI consisting of the signings made in January...

GK - Sam Johnstone

Villa needed a keeper, and Steve Bruce got his man in terms of the Man United stopper.

He should help shore up an already decent defence, and should prove to be an excellent capture.

RB - James Bree

The young Barnsley man made the move to Aston Villa and he should excel at Villa Park.

Many Tykes fans rate Bree higher than John Stones, and Steve Bruce could well have got an absolute bargain on his hands with Bree.

CB - Reece Oxford

One of the hottest properties in the Premier League, the signing of Oxford by Reading could be a masterstroke.

Reading are having a superb season, and Oxford will only add to the quality they have.

CB - Tiago Ilori

Another Reading signing, but Ilori should be an excellent capture for the Royals.

He has been injured early on, but he will no doubt be back and long term, should prove an excellent buy by Jaap Stam.

LB - Neil Taylor

This one is a no brainer really, but the signing of Taylor by Villa is a shrewd move.

A full international and bags of Premier League experience, he should add some quality to the back line at Villa Park.

RM - Mo Barrow

The signing of Barrow by Leeds could be a brilliant one, and he will be determined to prove his worth at Elland Road.

Barrow has bags of potential and bags of pace, and should prove to be an excellent signing by Garry Monk come the end of the season.

CM - Matty James

The loss of Conor Hourihane will hit Barnsley hard, so the addition of someone with the quality of James was vital.

He will be looking to overcome his injury problems and could prove an excellent signing for the Tykes.

CM - Henri Lansbury

The signing of Lansbury by Villa was a major coup and real blow to Nottingham Forest.

Lansbury is top class at this level, and he will be a vital component for Villa between now and the end of the season.

LM - Helder Costa

The big signing for Wolves this window was that of star man Costa, and he should excel now his move is permanent.

Costa can play anywhere across the attacking positions, and in a wide role in this XI he would be superb.

Fwd - Jordan Rhodes

Sheffield Wednesday beat everyone else to the punch with the signing of Rhodes, and he could well prove the difference between winning promotion and not.

Rhodes will be hoping to get off the mark quickly for the Owls, and will be a vital player between now and the end of the season.

Fwd - Ross McCormack

Nottingham Forest pulled off a masterstroke signing the out of favour Villa man on deadline day, and he could turn their season around.

Forest have struggled this season, but the thought of McCormack and Assombalonga is one which Reds fans will be salivating over.
