January transfer target gives update that could interest fans of Aston Villa and West Brom

Newcastle midfielder Isaac Hayden says he wants to leave the club in the summer transfer window, in order to be closer to his family.

Hayden has been in outstanding form for Rafael Benitez’ side in the Premier League this season, but insists he still wants to move to a club further South at the end of the campaign, and that could put the likes of Aston Villa and West Brom on alert.

During the January transfer window, The Daily Mail reported that both Midlands clubs made enquiries to Newcastle about Hayden, although the midfielder eventually remained at St James’ Park.

Despite that however, there could be a fresh chance to snap up the 24 year old after Hayden revealed that he had been making trips to and from London to see his one year daughter, with The Chronicle quoting him telling the club’s matchday programme: “She’s a one-year-old who’s used to doing five-hour journeys.

“I’m sitting here looking at her thinking this isn’t fair on you anymore.”

When asked about his future, Hayden made his intentions clear as he added: “I think I’ve made it very clear to the club’s hierarchy and the fans.

“I’ve got my side of the story out – I’ve made it pretty clear how things go.

“I don’t think summer’s going to be an issue.”

Hayden helped the Magpies lift the Championship title at the first time of asking during his debut season with Newcastle after joining from Hull, and has gone on to make 90 appearances in all for The Magpies.

The verdict

This could be a big opportunity for a club like Villa or West Brom.

Hayden is has shown he is capable of providing Premier League quality performances on a regular basis, and for non footballing reasons, could become an easy purchase for one of these two Midlands clubs, once they win the bidding war with each other.
