Charlton Athletic midfielder and January recruit David Davis has sent a message to the fans after the Addicks picked up an impressive three points on Tuesday night.

Lee Bowyer's side were not given much hope travelling to promotion-hopefuls Nottingham Forest but they came away with a 1-0 win and a big three points in their relegation battle.

After the final whistle, Davis took to Twitter to share his thoughts, writing simply: "3 points away it doesn’t get much better 💪🏽🤞🏽."

QUIZ: How much do you know about Charlton’s January signings?

The game was just 24 minutes old when Charlton took the lead and it was Naby Sarr at the heart of it, robbing possession on the left hand side before whipping in a delicious cross.

It could not have been better placed for Lyle Taylor who gratefully finished first-time in the box to edge the Addicks ahead.

Tiago Silva and Matty Cash both tested Dillon Phillips in the remainder of the game but it was Sarr who came closest to equalising, narrowly avoiding his own goal after slicing a Carl Jenkinson delivery in his own box.

The verdict

The Addicks midfield clearly needed bolstering over the January transfer window and it is good to see that Bowyer did exactly that.

Davis is unlikely to be a like for like replacement for Conor Gallagher but he certainly showed his worth on Tuesday night, delivering a tough, battling display in the midfield which went a long way to securing three points.

His experience in that role looks like it will be crucial in seeing Charlton beat the drop this season, and with performances like last night's, it would be hard to bet against them.
