Frederic Guilbert has admitted that he has received abuse from Caen supporters after signing for Aston Villa, despite being focused on helping the team remain in Ligue 1.

The 24-year-old full-back moved to Villa Park in January but was immediately loaned back to the Ligue 1 side for the rest of the season as part of his deal.

“Now some criticisms are sometimes abusive,” said Guilbert, as quoted by the Birmingham Mail.

“After signing for Aston Villa, I can understand, and many people say that ‘he has his mind elsewhere.’ I knew that these things were going to be said when I signed for Aston Villa.

"But I am concerned by the club at more than 1000 per-cent," added Villa's January signing.

Guilbert admitted that he is not thinking about life at Villa Park next season at all and is firmly focused on helping his current side remain in Ligue 1.

“My head is not at Aston Villa. I’m concentrating on Caen because I really want to save them, and help the club stay in Ligue 1."

Caen are currently 18th in the Ligue 1 table and occupy the final relegation spot. The team are seven points from safety with eight matches to play.

Meanwhile, Villa are on a great run in the Championship and have won their last five successive matches, a run that has seen them climb into the play-off places.

The Verdict:

It's not nice to hear that Guilbert is getting abuse from Caen supporters after signing for Villa, especially as he seems so focused on helping the French club remain in Ligue 1.

Hopefully it does not continue and it will be interesting to see whether this has any affect on the player when he finally joins up with Villa in the summer.
