Huddersfield Town manager Jan Siewert has given his verdict after the club secured the signing of experienced striker Fraizer Campbell on Monday.

The 31-year-old makes the move across Yorkshire on a free transfer after being released by Hull City at the end of last season, signing a two-year deal with the Terriers, and Siewert sure his impact will be felt.

"I am very pleased that he has signed with us," the club reported from his pre-match press conference.

"We now need to get him going. He knows what I want from him and he knows all about this club.

“With his age and experience it’s a really good signing for us.”

Last season saw Campbell make 39 Championship appearances for Hull, scoring an impressive 12 goals and assisting six more in that time - but was not made part of Grant McCann's plans in pre-season.

He could get his first run-out for his new club as soon as tomorrow night when Huddersfield welcome Lincoln City to the John Smiths for the first round of the League Cup.

So far since returning to the Championship, Siewert's side have lost to Derby County and drawn with QPR so they will be looking to build some momentum against the Imps on Tuesday night.

The verdict

I think this is a smart signing for Huddersfield and frankly I'm surprised Hull let him go.

He is unlikely to get into the starting XI ahead of Karlan Grant, but as far as a back-up striker goes, they were not going to get anybody better - especially on a free.

So far, both of their goals have come from the spot so I do not think many can argue with the club choosing to add more firepower.
