Huddersfield Town boss Jan Siewert has indicated that a debut for 19-year-old goalkeeper Ryan Schofield will be one of multiple changes he makes in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday evening.

The Terriers welcome League One side Lincoln City to the John Smith’s Stadium in the first round tie.

It won’t be an easy fixture for Siewert’s side as Lincoln have made a great start to the season, winning two in two, and currently sit second in League One.

Huddersfield are yet to win in the 2019/20 campaign, after one loss and one draw in the Championship, and the German manager indicated in a press conference prior to the cup tie that he would be making changes.

He was quoted by Town's social media as saying: “We will have a different side tomorrow night. Players have to push the others.

“We have to create the mentality that everyone competes in this squad. We have players that are itching to start.

“I can definitely say that Ryan Schofield will start.”

Schofield spent the second half of last season on loan with Notts County in League Two, making 17 appearances and keeping four clean sheets.

A product of the Huddersfield academy, the 19-year-old joined the club at under-9 level but is yet to make a senior appearance for the Terriers.

He now looks certain to make his debut against Lincoln on Tuesday evening.

The Verdict

The Carabao Cup tie comes at a great time for Siewert as it allows him a chance to take a look at some of the options available in his squad after a shaky start to the season.

Lincoln are flying in League One and are no stranger to a cup run, and the benefits it can provide, so this should be a tough test for the Terriers.

It will be an exciting moment for Schofield, making his debut at the John Smith’s Stadium after spending around 10 years at the club.
