New Sheffield United striker James Wilson believes his big-game experience could be important for the Blades, starting with the Steel City derby tomorrow.

The 22-year old came through the ranks at Manchester United and joined the Yorkshire club until the end of the season after a frustrating few seasons.

And, it’s a baptism of fire for the striker, with the Blades bitter rivals Sheffield Wednesday the first side up.

However, Wilson is relishing the prospect of playing in the derby and revealed to the Sheffield Star that these are the games he’s always wanted to be involved in.

That’s what you come into football for, isn’t it. Matches like these are what you dream of being involved in and, to be honest, I really can’t wait.”

The striker also reckons that coming through at a club the size of United has enabled him to deal with the big occasions.

Going with Manchester United to places like Anfield and Arsenal, they’re really good atmospheres and I know this one is going to be no different. I’m fortunate, coming through at Manchester United that I’ve been able to learn from ‘big-game’ players and there’s lots of those, lots of experience here, too.”

The Verdict

Sheffield United fans will be pleased with what Wilson says as he clearly isn’t going to be fazed by playing in such a hostile atmosphere.

Plus, as the season progresses the games will hopefully get more important for the Blades and Wilson’s temperament and mentality could be ideal.

After a tough few years with injury, this is a big chance for Wilson and one he will be desperate to take.
