West Bromwich Albion caretaker manager James Shan is happy with his coaching team for this week.

The caretaker boss is preparing for the Championship match against Birmingham City on Friday night, where he will have another chance to impress the club's board.

Shan has been in caretaker charge at The Hawthorns since Darren Moore was sacked over two weeks ago and has won both his matches in temporary charge against Swansea City and Brentford.

Albion were willing to let Shan bring in a more experienced coach on a temporary basis to assist him with his preparations, but the Baggies caretaker boss has insisted he is happy with his current set-up.

“I realise there has been some talk in the press about a senior figure coming into help but I am very happy with the team we’ve got here leading up to Friday’s game,” said Shan, as quoted by the Express and Star.

“I’m enjoying the responsibility and making the decisions and I am getting good information from the coaches around me. It’s a very confident team."

Loans manager Deon Burton and under-23 boss Jamie Smith have made the step up to the first-team to assist Shan.

West Brom are currently fourth in the Championship table, but have a ten-point lead over seventh-placed Preston North End and look set to finish the season in the play-off places.

The Verdict:

Shan has done a brilliant job as caretaker boss so far and is in pole position to take charge of West Brom until the end of the season.

Whether or not he is the right man to lead the Baggies into the play-offs remains to be seen, but you have got to admire his confidence in himself and his current coaching team.

Perhaps Shan would benefit from working alongside a more experience coach, but he has done okay so far.

It will be interesting to see how he does against Birmingham on Friday, where he has another opportunity to impress the club's decision-makers.
