Former West Bromwich Albion midfielder James Morrison believes the club can go onto secure promotion this season after their fine form over the past few months.

The Baggies have enjoyed an excellent campaign so far, with Slaven Bilic’s side suffering just a single defeat in their opening 19 matches and winning 12 of those, ensuring they sit top of the table heading into their clash with Swansea City at The Hawthorns this weekend.

Slaven Bilic’s side are currently seven points clear of third placed Fulham, and they will be looking to extend their five-game winning run over the festive period to keep themselves ahead of the chasing pack in the race for automatic promotion.

Did they play for West Brom? - Can you get 18 out of 18?

Speaking to the Express and Star, Morrison suggested that West Brom will need to use their squad wisely over the next few weeks but he also stated that Albion will be too difficult to stop in the promotion race.

"The style of football we are playing is great and everything is going to plan at the minute. There is a good feel about the place, the players are playing well and scoring lots of goals. It’s just a case of keeping going.

"In the Championship, you see it time and time again, things can change pretty quickly. So the squad will be really important, everyone will have to play their part. But I think the team have been fantastic this year. I don’t want to jinx it, but I can’t see anyone pipping us at the minute."

The Verdict

As Morrison suggests, West Brom will certainly be needing to use their squad over the festive period, and Bilic has already shown that he can get the most of players who have not been starting every week, given the amount of goals that have been scored by his substitutes so far this campaign.

West Brom at the moment certainly look like really strong contenders to claim one of the two automatic promotion places, and they arguably have the strongest squads in the Championship, with the likes of Charlie Austin, Darnell Furlong, Ahmed Hegazi, Conor Townsend and Filip Krovinovic struggling to make the starting line-up at the moment.

Were the Baggies to come through the festive period in a similar position to where they are now, it would be very difficult to see them being caught during the second half of the campaign, but Bilic must ensure that does not lead to his side becoming complacent.
