Leicester City midfielder James Maddison has sent a message to Sheffield United on social media, after the Blades were promoted to the Premier League at the weekend.

The Blades' 2-0 win over Ipswich Town on Saturday evening meant that promotion rivals Leeds United had to win against Aston Villa on Sunday to take the automatic promotion race to the final day.

Leeds were held to a 1-1 draw by Villa at Elland Road, meaning that Sheffield United are promoted to the Premier League for the first time since 2006-07.

Maddison sent this message to the club on social media on Monday afternoon, congratulating the team on their promotion to the top flight.

Maddison added that he cannot wait for former Sheffield United defender and current Leicester teammate Harry Maguire to score against the Blades at Bramall Lane next season.

Sheffield United are now three points behind Norwich City in the Championship table and have a superior goal difference.

The Blades could win the Championship title, something that looked highly unlikely just a few weeks ago, if they can beat Stoke City on the final day of the season and if Norwich lose against Villa.

The Verdict

Sheffield United deserve tremendous credit for what they have been able to achieve in the Championship this season.

Maguire has scored plenty of headed goals throughout his career, so it is not out of the question that he could score against his former club next season, for now though, the team should look forward to playing in the top flight.
