James Bailey wanted back at Crewe following Derby release

Published

It is understood that Crewe Alexandra is wanting James Bailey to return to Gresty Road following his release by Derby County yesterday.

James Bailey revealed on Twitter yesterday that he was leaving Derby County after signing from Crewe back in 2010 in a double deal, that saw John Brayford join Derby from Crewe in a 1 million pound deal also.

His twitter feed readMassive thank you to the people who made my time as a Derby County player so special -players, staff and supporters. Great memories and will always wish the club well. On to the next challenge….”

Bailey, 25, was bought by Nigel Clough four years ago, two years into life at Derby County, he was suddenly left out by Clough and sent out on loan to League One club Coventry City, making two separate loans spells at the Ricoh Arena.

His Derby career has been hit by injuries through the four years. At the end of the 2012/13 season, then manager Nigel Clough placed Bailey on the transfer list but he couldn’t move away. He made one appearance for Derby while current manager Steve McClaren has been in charge, he came on as a late substitute in the FA Cup Third Round at home in the 0-2 loss against Premier League Chelsea.

His old side Crewe are looking to bring back the centre midfielder as he will cost them nothing following his release from Derby County.
