Jamal Blackman completed a season-long loan move to Leeds United this afternoon and revealed that the chance to play under Marcelo Bielsa was a big reason in his decision.

The Chelsea stopper impressed for Sheffield United during the previous campaign and was in-demand this summer.

However, said (as quoted by the Yorkshire Evening Post) that Leeds had the edge because of Bielsa - adding that staff at his parent club said it would be a good experience.

"It’s such a big club with a great manager as well. At Chelsea everyone speaks really highly of him. They said that being able to work under him would be a great opportunity, and in your career you don’t get that many opportunities like this. It was one I had to take."

Blackman also insisted that the size of the club made him want to move to Elland Road as soon as he knew of Leeds' interest.

"I got a call from my agent saying there was a possible chance to go to Leeds. He asked me if I wanted to go and I said yes because it’s such a big club with a big fanbase. I’d love to come."

The Verdict

This is a great signing for Leeds as they desperately needed a keeper and Blackman is a proven stopper at this level.

The supporters will enjoy his comments and it shows the pull that Bielsa has. Given his reputation in the game he is going to attract players and could give Leeds an advantage over others when it comes to signing new players.

Now, Blackman will want to show what he's all about, starting against Forest Green Rovers tomorrow.
