Following Saturday's 2-1 win over Fleetwood Town, Bolton have moved just two points away from zero, and one defender at the club has said he is more than happy to pass his experience on to his younger teammate.

Jake Wright, 33, on-loan from Sheffield United, made his fourth appearance for Wanderers in the 2-1 victory over Fleetwood on Saturday and is one of the most experienced players in the Trotter's squad this season.

Wright has made nearly 300 first team appearances across his career and he says fellow defender Yoan Zouma, 21, should see no reason why he cannot reach that feat in his own career.

Zouma has so far made 11 league appearances for Wanderers since breaking through into the first team at the start of this season and has been a regular for the Trotters since Keith Hill's appointment.

Wright says he is more than happy to pass his experience onto Zouma, in which he hopes he can help get the most of the 21-year-old's physical talent.

Praising the group of youngsters in the Bolton squad, Wright told the Bolton News: "All the young lads have been brilliant and when you look at what they have been up against – lads who have 200-300 games under their belt – it makes what they have done that bit better.

"Of course there are times when they need that guiding hand. There’s only one way you get it, and that’s by playing games. The good thing for these lads is that they are learning on the job and I think there’s enough players like myself out there who can get them through games."

Wright partnered Zouma in the Trotters' win over Fleetwood, and speaking of his teammate said: "I have got Zouma next to me and he’s got everything – so quick, so strong, so aggressive – but sometimes his positioning isn’t quite right. That comes with experience and I think he’s getting better with each passing game."

Manager Keith Hill has pinpointed Zouma as a potential future captain and Wright says Zouma can have a big future: "If he carries on like that then there’s a chance he’ll have a big future but he needs to keep learning, keep listening to the gaffer and the players around him and he’ll be fine."

The Verdict

Wanderers fans will have been forgiven if they'd classed this season as a write-off given starting the season on minus 12 points.

However, their young squad have shown resilience since Hill has come in and two victories in two games will certainly allow fans to feel optimistic for now.

Should Wanderers drop into League Two at the end of this season, a silver lining will be the experience amassed by the younger players during this campaign.

Having senior players such as Wright around will stand the younger ones in good stead for the future as Keith Hill continues to rebuild Wanderers.
