The Welsh under-21 international spent the second half of last season on loan to Tranmere Rovers after a poor start to the season at Molineux.

It was the 21 year-old’s third loan spell at Prenton Park but the least successful – he made 19 appearances for the Whites, scoring just once as the club were relegated to SkyBet League Two.

He is yet to score for Wolves in 25 appearances but boss Kenny Jackett is preaching patience as the key to Cassidy coming good.

He said: “Patience is something and players can change from one season to the next, so you have to consider re-signing them.

“For us as well, centre forward is a different position and you should have options because it’s difficult during the season sometimes to get forwards in.

“You can end up paying over the odds to cover yourself – particularly if you’ve got a chance of achieving something so calling back a younger player from a loan is a good option.”

The Wolves boss is hopeful that another loan spell to a leading League One side for the coming season will help the forward’s development.

He said: “If you can get young players a good loan it’s a worthwhile thing. Cassidy is somebody that League One clubs will take and we can get a good loan so we feel, in terms of making that decision, it is quite an easy one to keep him.”

The club are particularly eager not to suffer a repeat scenario of missing out seeing Sam Vokes score 21 goals to help Burnley gain promotion to the Premier League just two years on from selling him to the Clarets for £500,000 after he failed to impress in the Midlands.
