Swansea City left-back Jake Bidwell has discussed meeting with his former club - via Swansea's website - ahead of their clash tonight at The Liberty Stadium.

The 26-year-old Bidwell spent two seasons on loan at Griffin Park in 2011-2012 and 2012-2013 as he spent time on loan at the Bees from boyhood club Everton, before signing permanently in 2013 and going on to win the League One 2014 title as well as become a regular on the left side of defence.

Bidwell said: "I had five good seasons there, and have some great memories of the club.

“They’re a good footballing team, their ideas may have changed slightly since I was there but I don’t think their identity has. Hopefully it should make for a good game."

Across the five seasons that he spent on the books of Brentford, Bidwell made 211 appearances and scored three goals as he made an impact for the side, helping them consolidate themselves in the Championship before departing for QPR in 2016 and then signing for Swansea for the current season.

The defender was just a piece of the puzzle for Brentford in the club's long-term development, the Bees preferring to sign young players other than the experienced journeymen that can often be found floating around the lower leagues.

Swansea City have started the season well under new manager Steve Cooper, sitting third in the league with 22 points from 12 games while three points off the league leaders West Bromwich Albion. Brentford are 13th in the table with 15 points from 12 games after a dramatic 3-2 win over Millwall at the weekend.

The Verdict:

Just like any player facing their old club, Bidwell is right to look forward to the game as it's a chance for him to see old faces before the encounter.

However, Bidwell can't get too emotionally attached during the clash as he has a job to do for his new Swans side.
