For the first time in five matches, Sheffield Wednesday were on the winning side of proceedings last night as they routinely dispatched Sunderland at Hillsborough.

It's a result that Owls fans perhaps didn't see coming, especially as they'd been struggling to turn one point into three in recent times after four successive draws, and even more so when they saw Marvin Johnson was playing as a centre-back.

With options limited at the back for Darren Moore, the winger was put in an unfamiliar position but he rose to the task and kept the Black Cats quiet along with Chey Dunkley and Jack Hunt at the back.

Goals from Theo Corbeanu, Florian Kamberi and Lee Gregory sealed a 3-0 blowout for the Yorkshire side, who as mentioned had a lot of injuries to contend with.

One player who was fit though and came off the bench was Jaden Brown, with the left-sided player making his ninth appearance in League One this season and he sent a message to the fans from his Twitter account following the Owls' success on home soil.

The Verdict

With a lot of injuries in the squad, Brown was perhaps unfortunate to not get the call-up after being on the bench against Cheltenham last time out.

Despite generally being a left-back for most of his young career, Brown has been played further forward for Wednesday and he could have worked really well as a wing-back right now.

But Darren Moore's decision to play Corbeanu in that role was vindicated in the end but from Brown's post-match message after getting on the pitch for a cameo appearance it shows that there's still a good team spirit.

Now the Owls need to go on a winning run or else they'll be left ruing those four draws in a row that came between their win against Bolton and their victory last night.
