Birmingham City have seen a remarkable improvement in form in recent weeks, with Saturday’s draw at Preston the Blues’ seventh point from their past four games.

Manager Steve Cotterill had struggled to lift the West Midlanders out of the bottom three following his appointment earlier in the season, but following their recent good form, the club lie just a single point from safety with only eighteen games remaining.

Several key men who have struggled for form have finally hit the ground, with the likes of Sam Gallagher and Jacques Maghoma beginning to play well under Cotterill over the past few weeks.

Gallagher bagged the equaliser at Deepdale, with a solid display from fellow forward Maghoma helping the Blues to a well-deserved point.

The Congolese winger was pleased with his side’s display, and was quick to thank fans for their unwavering support.

“I just want to give something back to the fans for sticking with the club, especially with what’s been going on,” he told the Blues’ official website.

“We’ve had more bad luck than good luck, and it’s up to the players to turn that around. We’re doing it slowly, but hopefully we’ll be out of the bottom three and there will be more joy than sorrow.”

The Verdict

Birmingham’s recent form must continue if they are to survive this season, with the form of Maghoma a key indicator as to whether the club will remain in this division for another season or not.

If the Blues can continue their solid run and finally climb out of the bottom three, then Cotterill can begin to harbour ambitions of moving into mid-table, and putting all fears of relegation behind him.
