Birmingham were victorious at the weekend with a 2-1 win over Sheffield United.

Maghoma scored the winner as the Blues came from behind to beat the Blades at St Andrews.

It was a crucial three points for Birmingham due to it increasing the gap to Barnsley to five points with two games remaining, although Barnsley have a game in hand against Nottingham Forest.

They have QPR up next in a pivotal game because this will have been the game that Garry Monk targeted for points after they drew with Burton a few weeks ago, due to it being the easiest remaining game based on league position.

Fulham are their last opponents, and they are likely to be fighting till the last game for the second automatic promotion spot, so the Blues are unlikely to get any points in that game.

Here's what Maghoma had to say about the victory over Sheffield United, according to the official site: "Even when we were behind against Sheffield there was massive support."

"When we've gone behind or not been playing well you can always hear the fans urging us on and that's a big plus for us players out on the pitch."

"I think both the players and the fans have turned it round and have been able to bring some positive vibes into the ground."

The Verdict

Monk has certainly changed the fortunes of the club since he came in because it was looking like a disastrous season prior to that.

Maghoma is right to point out the importance of the fans in creating a good atmosphere for the players to thrive in because they have won three and drawn one of Monk's five home games in charge. This home form has been key in getting them to safety, but the players also deserve credit for stepping up in crucial games.
