Jack Wilshere has opened up on discussions he held with Wayne Rooney over a role at Derby County.

The midfielder recently departed Danish side AGF Aarhus following the conclusion of the season.

But the 30-year old is hoping to continue his playing career despite the end of his time in Denmark.

Wilshere has previously played for Arsenal, Bournemouth and West Brom.

However, the former England international has revealed discussion he had with the Rams’ boss over a possible move to Pride Park.

The potential move to Derby would have involved taking up a role on Rooney’s coaching staff, with Wilshere also interested in moving into management in the future.

Wilshere is currently going through the process of earning his coaching badges with the ambition of getting into management.

In that process, the midfielder revealed he discussed a possible move to Derby.

“He was trying to convince me to come to Derby,” said Wilshere, via the Telegraph.

“I was always quite close with Wayne. We spoke about his management and he was loving it.”

Wilshere is hoping to become England manager some day, but will need to finish earning his coaching badges before making that first step into management.

It remains to be seen whether the Englishman will look to find a new club to compete with next season, or if he will focus further on his attempts to get into coaching.

The Verdict

Gaining experience as part of Rooney’s backroom staff would be a great opportunity for any aspiring managers.

While Derby will be competing in League One next season, the 36-year old has shown his talents as a manager during his time in charge with the Rams.

It will surely only be a matter of time before Rooney is managing higher up the English football pyramid, so working alongside him would be a great opportunity for Wilshere.

However, at only 30-years old, it would not come as a surprise if the midfielder opted to look for a new club to compete with next season instead.
