There's been a number of big-name stars plying their trade with Sunderland over the years, but one in particular is making the headlines at the moment.

Conor Hourihane is making quite a name for himself as part of the Aston Villa side who are firmly on track to win their battle to avoid relegation from the Premier League.

Hourihane was a key part of Villa's promotion-winning side last term, and has taken to life in the top flight like a duck to water.

It's easy to forget that the Republic Of Ireland international started his career at the Stadium Of Light, where he came through the youth academy before moving to Ipswich Town in 2010.

But after fulfilling his potential with Aston Villa, supporters of the Black Cats are certainly talking.

Can you name Sunderland's top goalscorer from each of the last 15 seasons? Have a go!

A post about the former Sunderland trainee was sent into a Black Cats' supporters' group on Facebook and sparked quite a reaction.

Here's what some of the fans said about the decision to let Conor Hourihane leave the club.

Paul Browne: “Blame Stewart Donald or Phil Parkinson.”

Rob Gilchrist: “An SAFC side with Pickford, Henderson, Hourihane and Egan would NOT be a mid-table third division side.”

Dermot McDonnell: “We wanted him to stay but he wanted to play for Keane at Ipswich so off he went…”

Barry Ross: “Jack Ross would have kept him!”

Lewis Pockock: “Too good for Sunderland.”
