Sunderland have enjoyed a solid start to their League One season currently sitting fourth and unbeaten in their opening three matches.

Jack Ross needs his whole squad on board though as he plots a route back into the Championship, and keeping hold of players like talented defender Bryan Oviedo looks crucial to that plan.

So do the Black Cats need to make sure they keep hold of Oviedo?

We discuss.....

Jay Taylor

Jack Ross should move heaven and earth to keep him.

Oviedo wants to leave but is remaining professional throughout and doing what he is told until he is no longer contract with the club.

He set up two more goals on the weekend to go with his opening day assist and is, without doubt, the best left-back in League One.

He wants to go but the club should do as much as they can within their means to get him to stay until either January or until the end of the season to try and help them gain promotion back to the Premier League.

Gary Hutchinson

Yes, absolutely.

What an attitude he has shown. He’s an international star, he could perhaps play top flight football and yet he’s happily plugging away in League One.

No fuss, no tantrums, no tears.

He understands the club, the fans and what they deserve and he’s fighting to bring them that.

He’s also far too good for that level. He’s a great footballer and a huge asset to the Black Cats

Jay Williams

Oviedo is a model professional, a fans' favourite and he is way too good to be playing League One football.

He is the perfect attack-minded left-back to grab more and more assists throughout the season.

Sunderland only need to hold onto him for 10 more days before he is their player until January and this must now be the priority.

It would be a major boost for the Black Cats if the Costa Rica international stays.

George Dagless

It's worth a try.

If they can hold on to him without it being a financial burden then it's a no brainer.

He's too good for League One so if he stays put Sunderland have one of the best players around in the division.
