Sunderland manager Jack Ross has given his verdict on the attacking aspect of his side's game ahead of their midweek clash with Rotherham United.

The Black Cats boss praised the attacking unit, saying that there is no doubt about the quality they possess as well how they have played over their opening seven games of the season.

"To score 18 goals in nine games is healthy," Ross told his pre-match press conference, reported by the club's official Twitter account.

"The quality of what we do in the final third is unquestionable."

With seven matches played, Sunderland currently sit in fifth place with seven matches played, winning four, drawing two and losing once.

Last weekend saw them beat Accrington Stanley convincingly away from home with Lynden Gooch, Aiden McGeady and Marc McNulty scoring before half-time to secure a 3-1 win.

Chris Maguire remains the club's top scorer this season with four goals with Gooch sitting in second on three, with both no doubt keen to increase their tallies against the Millers on Tuesday night.

The verdict

I think Ross needs to be careful not to become complacent with regards his attacking unit.

They have some excellent players, two of whom in Maguire and McGeady should be playing in the Championship, but often it is only that quality that shines through.

When it all clicks, it is great. But at times they have looked devoid of any sort of plan in attack and look to be hoping for one of their stars to take the game by the scruff of the neck.

If the likes of Wyke and McNulty can become more prolific, however, they will be right up there all season.
