Sunderland will have Lynden Gooch and Josh Maja available for this weekend’s trip to Plymouth Argyle, although Jack Ross does have a few injury concerns ahead of the long trip south.

Gooch has made 13 appearances in League One so far this season for the Black Cats, scoring three goals and registering six assists in a productive start to the campaign.

The 22-year-old completed over 70 minutes of the clash with Southend United last weekend, but didn’t last the 90 of the 3-0 victory.

However, Ross has confirmed to James Hunter at the Chronicle that Gooch has trained during the week and will be in contention, as will Maja, who has struggled with a knock in recent weeks.

Maja, who has nine goals and two assists to his name, started the clash with Southend on the bench, but Ross handed his teenage striker over half-an-hour of the 3-0 win and he will be available in Plymouth.

The Black Cats have other injury concerns, but Ross didn’t reveal to who.

Ross’ side are looking to make further ground on League One’s top-two and hopefully break into the automatic promotion places this weekend.

Sunderland currently sit third, but are just three points adrift of Portsmouth at the top of the table, even holding a game in hand over them and Peterborough.

The Verdict

This is a boost for Sunderland, as Gooch and Maja are very important.

Of course, knocks to others is a concern, but big players like Gooch and Maja will make a difference at Plymouth.

It’s a difficult away day for Sunderland, but one where Ross’ side will be confident of picking up three points.
