Will Grigg is in line to make his first appearance for Sunderland on Saturday when they take on Oxford United, in a game that they will need to pick up a crucial three points.

Sunderland boss, Jack Ross has revealed in a press conference that Grigg is expected to be involved, and is set to travel with the squad for the game this weekend.

Grigg was a deadline day signing for the Black Cats, and only just by the skin of their teeth as well, as they had an offer accepted just minutes before the deadline at 11pm.

But Jack Ross was delighted to strike a deal to bring the former Wigan man to the club with just minutes to spare.

"Will Grigg was a player we identified early on and he was our priority. As the weeks unfolded, it looked less and less likely, but we managed to bring a player to the club who is very much proven in this league."

Grigg netted 26 goals in his previous spell in League One as he fired Wigan to promotion, and he'll be hoping to do just that this season with Jack Ross' side.

There is much intrigue has to how he will fair for the promotion chasing side this season, but if he can find his shooting boots swiftly, then Sunderland have got some player on their hands.

The Verdict:

This is exciting news for Sunderland.

Grigg could be the man that fires them to promotion this season, and they'll need him to hit the ground running to achieve that.

I'm expecting him to start for this one, as the Black Cats need some goals in their side, and Grigg will certainly provide them with that going forward for the remainder of the season.
