Sunderland manager Jack Ross does not expect to make any new signings in the coming week, according to The Chronicle.

Speaking after their win over Scunthorpe United yesterday, Ross confirmed that he is not anticipating any new arrivals at the club this week but has not ruled anything out, while also adding that he would still consider signing another striker before the end of the month.

Although the permanent window has passed, Football League clubs are still able to sign players on loan until August 31st and Ross could look to dip into this market to add another striker to his ranks.

After beating Scunthorpe 3-0 at The Stadium of Light, Ross told the local press: “I don’t anticipate any [new signings] at the moment, but I’ve said that previously."

Ross appears to be happy with his current options as he has a few players nearing returns to first-team action after injuries, such as Duncan Watmore and Aiden McGeady in the attacking areas.

He added: “You could argue that we need an extra one in terms of attacking areas, but if Duncan and Aiden were fit."

The Verdict

I do not think Sunderland need any new signings; their squad is strong enough anyway.

With players ready to return from injury, the Black Cats will soon be overloaded with options and they shouldn't just make a loan signing for the sake of it.

With Charlie Wyke and Jerome Sinclair set to return to compete with Josh Maja - who has already hit three goals this season - the striker department is already packed full of talent.
