Sunderland boss Jack Ross has given an early indication into some team news ahead of this weekend's match with Burton Albion.

Denver Hume and Jack Baldwin are recovering from minor knocks and trained today with a view to being involved on Saturday afternoon, according to Ross.

Hume picked up a knock after the draw with Fleetwood Town, as did Baldwin but have managed to be reintegrated into the side ahead of the weekend.

Dylan McGeouch is also a significant doubt as he continues to try and build match fitness having only recently recovered from a knee injury.

Ross also updated the club’s fans on the fitness of Aiden McGeady, who has re-joined the group and set to step up his recovery from injury.

The former Scotland international has had a minor groin injury and had missed most of Sunderland’s pre-season but looks to be on the mend after returning to first-team training.

The 30-year-old re-joining the first team is with a view to moving ahead to the next step of his rehabilitation.

Speaking to Sunderland’s official website, the Black Cats boss said: “We have had a couple of minor issues with Denver Hume and Jack Baldwin, but they trained today.

“Slight concern over Dylan McGeouch but Aiden McGeady has joined in with training this week, and that will accelerate his return.”

The Verdict

Some positive news, but also some negative reports from Sunderland ahead of this weekend’s visit to the Pirelli Stadium.

News that Aiden McGeady is nearing a comeback is positive having been able to keep hold of him through the transfer windows, because of a groin problem.

You would imagine Jack Baldwin and Denver Hume will both play a part this weekend having recovered from slight knocks in last week’s draw with Fleetwood Town.

Sunderland have started well so keeping the pool of players they currently have to select from is going to be crucial to keeping the run going.
