Jack Ross heaps praise on two Sunderland men as pre-season preparations continue

Sunderland boss Jack Ross has revealed that he is pleased with the impact Duncan Watmore and Elliot Embleton have had on the side this pre-season.

Forward Watmore has had serious problems with injuries over the years which have halted his progress and it’s a real shame for the player who is clearly very talented. However, he is fit now and has been making a positive impression in training.

Meanwhile, Embelton is back on Wearside after having enjoyed a successful loan spell with Grimsby in the previous campaign and is hoping to force his way into the first-team for the Black Cats for the upcoming season.

And, Ross was quick to praise the pair when speaking to the club’s media during the pre-season tour of Portugal.

Duncan (Watmore) has been really good and Embleton has been terrific since he came back for pre-season. You can see what he can provide in the final third, so I was pleased with that.”

The north-east outfit kick-off their League One season on August 3 when they welcome Oxford United to the Stadium of Light.

The Verdict

The fans will be delighted to hear that Watmore and Embleton are making a good impression on tour as they are two players that the support want to see starring next season.

Watmore’s ability is clear to see but the issue for him is always going to be about staying fit.

As for Embleton, he proved last season he is ready to make the step up to the third-tier and the local lad will be desperate to impress.

The duo need to keep their standards up for the next few weeks and it sounds as though they will be lining up in the opener against the U’s.
