Jack Ross has been praising his 19-year old striking sensation Josh Maja this week ahead of their trip to Shrewsbury.

Maja has been in superb form this season, leading the line with nine goals from 12 games in League One and ensuring the impact of Charlie Wyke's injury hasn't been felt as severely as it might have been.

Maja is out of contract at the end of the season and has already been attracting interest from clubs higher up the spectrum, but Ross is keen to put that to one side to praise his star player.

"I was chatting to him before the Bradford game, I texted one of our analysts for the breakdown of his goals," he told the Chronicle Live. "I think it was 4-3 from left to right foot and a header. That's brilliant, that's not easy to do."

He went on to praise the forward's goal in their 2-2 draw with high-flying Peterborough which ensured they remained in the promotion hunt.

"I thought his goal against Peterborough was terrific. It doesn't grab loads of headlines because it's not top corner but if you see how he shifts it and where he puts it in the net, he's so good at that. Scarily good actually."

Southampton, Spurs and Manchester City have all been linked with a move for Maja.

The Verdict

Ross is right, Maja does look scarily good this season. He's clearly thriving being surrounded by good players and of course, having talent himself.

League One is being good to him, he's getting games where perhaps he wouldn't one level up at his age. He's seized his chance and it could lead to a big move for him at the end of the season.
